Proposal: Change of social media platform policies

[DRAFT of a votable point for a future ALV]

Goal of the votable point

We want to use existing external social-media platforms to make people that might be interested to join our space, projects, community or culture that would otherwise not have a way of knowing of our existence.

This will be done without making any of these platforms a source of content that cannot be found on the Techinc infrastructure. We will use the platforms to repost relevant content that is already available on techinc.nl to these platforms, linking back to Techinc's infrastructure. Conversations on these platforms should be referring to wiki, mailing-lists or IRC when appropriate. It will be explicitly frowned upon to create unique content on these external platforms.

We do not want to encourage the use of these social-media platforms by either our members or others in any way.

Currently, there are various social-media channels created with the "Techinc" name/branding. We would to re-enable these accounts to publish Techinc activities and other information to these platforms as well as evaluate creating "Techinc" accounts on other platforms.

Context of this votable point

In the summer of 2013 the ALV decided to make Social-media "officially unofficial", meaning that you can refer to or promote Techinc and/or it's events but you should only do so in as a member, not "techinc".

This votable point aims to amend that decision. Allowing a set of members to be engage on various platforms as "Techinc".

Implementation of the votable point

  1. We create a "Propaganda Committee" (PropComm) that maintains those accounts.
    • PropComm will consist of 3 members, elected by a ALV vote.
    • The set can have overlap with board members. However board members cannot have a majority vote in PropComm.
  2. The ALV will request members who currently control those accounts to relinquish control to the PropComm once it is established.
  3. PropComm will maintain a Techinc wiki page where they maintain an overview of the ownership and integrations with various platforms.
  4. PropComm members are invited to automate the interactions with external platforms.
  5. PropComm will not encourage Techinc members to use these platforms in active ways.

The social media platforms currently targeted are, but not limited to:

  • Meetup
  • Mastodon
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Radar.squat.net
  • LinkedIn
