Current Status
The milling machine has been restored, and new bigger 3D-printed handwheels have been installed on all the axes. It has been bolted down to the table for added rigidity, but if you need extra work space, feel free to unscrew it. Note that the scale ring on the y-axis doesn't turn in tandem with the handwheel, so don't trust its readings.
To do
- Ball-bearings can be fit on the y- and z-axes to allow for easier movement.
- The retaining nuts on the lead screws for all the axes have a tendency to loosen. They should be tightened with thread-lock.
- The mill needs to be trammed. It doesn't appear to cut square.
- Add an adapter to the spindle to mount the vacuum hose so that metal dust doesn't fly everywhere.
- The handwheels were printed from PLA. They could probably be printed in a sturdier plastic or machined from aluminium.
