Even if programming is not what earns your bread, it might be interesting know some basic things about programming like what computers are, what programming is and how it originated. Beyond that we could see whether we could actually automate something useful, like an online light switch, a scientific calculation or a very basic web app.

The workshop will take place on a pay-as-you-like basis, donations will go to the hosting venue(s). We expect to take about 4 hours spread over 3 separate afternoons, though you are in no way expected to take part in all of them. The first 1,5 hour will be a 'classical' lecture followed by about 2-2,5 hours of guided tinkering and messing about.

This is the first workshop in the series, in which we will install a basic programming environment and write our first few programs in the Python language.
