iFixit Techinc Chair

The blue-seated chairs at techinc are generally nice chairs, but are prone to a number of modes of failure.

Backrest

The backrest is normally fastened to the chair with a couple of bolts that go into the back-rest in a rather shallow hole. The threads often pull loose and thus the bolts down stick anymore. One way to fix this is to inject some glue into the holes, put the bolts in and clamp it down for a little.

However, a better way to solve this has now been invented !

Sometimes pictures are actually better than words.

Seat-rest

There are four screws securing the seat to the chair-frame. If the seat's loose, find chair-parts in a small set of drawers on the aux-space pillar; labelled as such. Find a fitting screw, put it in, secure it.

Sides/legs =

The legs are sometimes a bit loose from the rest of the frame. The same fix applies as for the seat-rest. Tighten them, and if there are any parts missing, find them in the little drawer in the aux-space.

Frame-join

In rare cases, the welding seam of the parts of the metal frame breaks. This is sadly a 'FUBAR' situation and it's best to trash the chair; attempts to re-weld these kinds of failures have been quite unsuccessful. See item about trashing a chair.

Trashing a chair

When you trash a chair, do not just 'throw it into the hallway'. Please:

  • Take the screws out and store them in the little drawers labelled 'chair-parts' mounted in red drawer-furniture on the pillar.
  • Take the LEGS and put them in the dirty-room together with the other high-quality woods (it's solid Beech wood; and quite high quality at that)
  • Put he remains in the trash; preferably by directly moving it outside at the 'grofvuil' at the beginning of the acta-terrain
