Saturday Taster's Dream Night

This Saturday night (6/11/2016) night (starting around 19:00) is going to be dedicated to gourmet "foods and drinks" which we believe comes as no surprise with Food Hacking Base (FHB) being around.

Artisanal Cider Tasting - This is going to be the main attraction of the evening. We will evaluate a variety of high quality French ciders and possibly also some samples from other countries. We are coming from our trip to Normandie so most of them will be from that region, really high quality stuff! Please do bring some ciders of your own if you brewed some or introduce your bellowed brand (good calvados is most welcome too! :-)).

CheeseBits - This is the second event of the night which however will to a degree "melt together" with the previous one because we do believe that good cheese and cider fit together. We will bring some French cheeses and we will also source some Dutch and International cheeses. As usually if you can bring your favorite one, 50-100 g is enough for tasting. We will label the samples and tell the basic story of the origin etc. so you can track down later on your champions.

Both of these events can accommodate around 20 people or few extra and are donation based, everyone welcome to attend, no one turned away for lack of funds. What we collect will cover the spendings for the ingredients (100-200 eu depends how much we party) and hopefully part of our gas money (around 2500 km trip = +- 300 eu in diesel). If there is someone who would like to help out with extra funding please talk to algoldor (you know the sign at) foodhackingbase.org or Arnd, sproet or Daan (SawuGo).

Please let us know below if you are attending:
We're going to be brewing beer again!

Event Highlights:
* We're going to brew a ServerRoom Saison!
* We'll attempt a technique of brewing high-volume batches using small-batch gear (diluting with water only before fermentation) or even after ?
* Justa will give his newly improved belt-driven grain-mill a try !
* Piele might share some of the secrets of last time's IPA-recipe !
* Depending upon availability, last brewing-session's products might be up for tasting
* Some other beers from the brewers are up for tasting as well (pumpkin ale, SenSeIPA, More ? (piele ?))

The last beer-brewing session was concluded rather succesfully with two beers that have come to be hihgly drink-able.

* A NEI-PA, or NE-IPA..; something that was brewed as an IPA but turned out different.
* A syruppy stout that sticks to the inside of your glass and tastes of coffee but contains no amount of coffee at all!

Both of these are being gleefully consumed at the moment by the brewers; we aim to have a couple of bottles available for tasting at BeerBrew II.

What you can expect of the beer-brewing day:

* You get to see AND participate in the production of a beer from it's grain, water, yeast and hop components all the way to the point where it is ready for fermentation
* You get to understand the proces that turns the grain into something the yeast can use.
* You get to appreciate the amount of preparation, hygeine and concentration that goes into preparing this beverage
* You get to see a number of techniques/variants in the process that can be used to simplify or improve certain steps , depending on the desired outcome.

If you have a beer-kit, beer-brewing-set, or somesuch that you would like to bring and (under assistance) be shown how to use and/or to see just how you can improve on the basic techniques of it: please take it with you ! We'll be happy to help you brew up a batch in it during the day, sharing ideas, experiments, hops, material, etc.

Please let us know you're coming, either by contacting Justa/Piele or adding yourself to this page (an anon-alias is fine too, just so as long as we can see general interest).
Overview
Shapeoko 2 is a low-cost desktop milling kit that lets you carve woods, plastics, and soft metals with precision.

The effective working area is approximately 300mm x 300mm x 625mm.

I have ordered the complete kit from RoboSavvy (http://robosavvy.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/2054/products_id/4230)

This is a generic light/medium duty CNC platform and could in principle be used for a number of things. I persoannly am interested in milling wood and alu, but PCB's can also be made with it for quick PCB prototypes.

Status
Assembled, was working with stock spindle.
Moved to the space, added end-stops, need to finish the wiring of the endstops.
Changed spindle, need to mount spindle with 3d printed spindle mounts.

Additional notes
I'll be building this one at home mostly, to speed up things. Once complete and I have some experience with it, it will move to TechInc.
Wallyhttps://wiki.techinc.nl/index.php?title=ShapeOko2_CNC&diff=12978ShapeOko2 CNC2014-08-04T10:08:18Z
Wally: Created page with "{{Inventory |Description=ShapeOko 2 CNC |Make=ShapeOko |Model=2 |Manufacturer Link=http://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/ShapeOko_2 |Category=Mechanics |Operational Status=BR..."

We have recently acquired a separate storage room to free up extra space and/or empty the [future, projected] clean room.

Pending better documentation, here's a list of what we stored there:

* All BBQ equipment and coals
* excess blue stackable chairs
* excess white chairs
* excess shelve parts
* excess TFT screens
* (some) wood storage
* one of the ladders (specifically, Aldert's ladder)
* Open reel recorder (Owner: Amran)
* hackable old laser printers (donated by Justa)
* Speakers that need to be repaired
* Amplifiers that need to be repaired
* OHM related leftover mess (Karcher high pressure cleaner, tent, almost all the Cray parts)
* that massive heavy blue mysterious vending/payment machine
* the UV light table
* the A0/A1 paper plotter
* some of the Techinc logo t-shirt stock
* the Kiln/Oven, pending repair (it needs to be fixed)
* the second microwave (partly broken)
* the TL light boxes, pending deployment
* the box of electricity (building) parts
* the table of fire parts (owners Amran & justa)
* the parts we have for ventilation extension (DNH, owner ultratux)
* some of the flag t-shirts Vesna gathered
* some of the surplus cheap yellow soldering irons we bought for events
* some shipment cartons that may come in handy one day
* Some heavy materials like motors, valves, lenses, etc (donated by "Den Helder")
* Fabric and wool (donated by dreamer, owner Narya, everyone can use it)
* 2x HP UPS (Donated by Wally, infra team was interested in it)

There is a storage room group consisting of Ultratux, Narya and Control-K who ought to be contacted for all matters regarding the storage space, ie. what probably ought to go there, requests to not store specific items there, getting access, suggestions, etc.
Wallyhttps://wiki.techinc.nl/index.php?title=KidsWorkshopApril2014&diff=11761KidsWorkshopApril20142014-04-07T21:28:35Z
Wally:

Food Hacking Base Day1 - Tempeh Workshop, hands on, starts around 7 pm, 15 people max

This workshop is an introduction to soybean ferments. It will take you through the preparation of the soybeans, inoculation of the beans with the microbial culture and the subsequent harvesting and aging. The ferment which we prepare will be tempeh which is traditional Indonesian dish made from fermented soy bean by Rhizopus oligosporus.

The diversity of the ferments which can be prepared from soybeans is truly amazing, depending on the cultures (microbes) being used and conditions/techniques applied (and of course the treatment of the soy beans). In this workshop we will go through the basic steps which will secure proper preparation of the soy beans as a substrate for the microbes to inoculate it with. The proper fermentation conditions will be discussed and devices making it easy to full fill them suggested. We will be also harvesting the previously made ferment and as usually tasting samples of the final products. We will also recommend places where to order/buy the cultures.

The workshop is donation based, no one turned away for lack of funds. The basic ingredient costs will be around 5 eu, if can get around 10 eu per person in average that would be great! We can have around 15 people for this hands on workshop max.
