Introduction

DALI stands for Digital_Addressable_Lighting_Interface and is used by more 'expensive' kind of lighting-systems to control lights inside of a building, for example.

I have come to run into some of these lights and want to be able to remote-control them over zigbee/wifi/whatever.

DALI provides a 'reasonably safe, 2-wire connection' between 'sender' and 'receiver'. The receiver is typically some kind of dimmer-module. The 'sender' can be 'button-panel' or a (smart) kind of controller linked to interwebz or whatever.

There are however not so many implementations of re-usable interfacing-hardware out there that'd allow you to connect up some hobby-project to either drive a DALI-dimmer or 'be' a dimmer by listening to some controller on a DALI bus.

Plan

I have started on getting all the parts together to make a small prototype of a DALI-interface. The design is based on Infeon application-note: AP0813311_DALI_Control_Device_using%20_XC836_DALI_Board .

  • 10 MYS250 (FULL!) bridge-rectifier
  • 20 Ceramic capacitors (22uF, 50V)
